Birthday Organizer Online Help
FAQs, info and items that may have been overlooked in
the Help files.
It is recommended that you download and install version
5.1.
Free for registered users.
Before installing the new version, make sure to make
a backup, or copy, of your database -- psbdays.mdb. After the
installation, copy it back into the program's directory to continue
working with your data.
Getting Started
Once the program starts you
can begin entering the data you want to track. PS Birthday Organizers
watches Birthdays, Anniversaries, Reminders, Events and Holidays.
In the Listview you see at
the start you have an overview of all the data you have entered. The
days til column is how many days there are til the event occurs. No
consideration is taken of the year; all events are programmed to the
date in the present, or coming, year.
You have several default
settings you can choose at your pleasure. You can have PS Birthdays
Organizer to show all upcoming events when the program starts. When
the Timer is on the events will then appear on your screen when the
time setting has been reached.
When the Timer setting is
checked, PS Birthday Organizer will alert you to that coming event
when the stated time is reached. After dismissing the message, it will
display again the next day at the stated time. There is no option to
show it again in fifteen minutes, or two hours, or whenever. If you
want to see the message again in two hours or so, then you must reset
the time.
To edit one of your events
double click on it in the Listview, it will then in another window,
ready for editing, or deleting. Change the data you want, then click
on the Save button on the toolbar. Or you can delete the data once you
have it previewed in this frame.
The Calendar found in the
‘Settings’ tab is a viewing aid. It has no other function other than
to help you keep track of time.
As you will see, PS Birthday
Organizer is a powerful little program that will keep you informed of
all your important dates. But, the secret to using it, is to make sure
it is running. If it’s not in memory, it cannot keep you informed. So
turn it on and stay up to date.
Registering PS Birthday Organizer
To register PS Birthday
Organizer you have to go to the Pindersoft web site and then to the PS
Birthday Organizer page. Click on the link and you will be directed to
a secure web site where you can enter your credit card information.
You will then be emailed the registration number.
After
receiving this number, start PS Birthday Organizer and then, on the
Menu, open Admin/Registration. When the Registration window opens,
enter the Registration number. PS Birthday Organizer will then inform
you if the registration is successful.
Events
When
you enter or edit an Event you have several options you can choose
from. The first one is the type of Event.
Then
you have the “Alert me ‘X’ days before.” Use this to have PS
Birthday Organizer remind you the X number of days before the event
occurs. So if you choose 7 days, PS Birthday Organizer will start
reminding you of the coming event 7 days before it happens. It will
then show one message per day, at the time you have choose for the
message to appear.
The
Time setting is for you to choose when the message will appear. For
this to happen, you have to have the “Timer ON” option checked found
in the ‘Settings’ tab. After you dismiss the message, it will appear
again the following day, at the stated time. There is no option for it
to appear again in two hours, or in fifteen minutes. For this to
happen you have to edit the Event by resetting the time.
The
Date setting is when the Event will occur. You can set the Year to
whenever you want, but PS Birthday Organizer will time your event to
the current, or upcoming, year.
The
“Notes” field is for any notes you would like to add to the Event.
There
are two ways to Edit or Delete an Event from the Listview. You can
click on it with the right mouse button and a pop-up menu will appear.
You can mark the Event, and then choose the appropriate menu command.
Or you can double click on the Event and it will appear in another
window, ready for editing.
To add
a NEW Event, choose the ‘New’ command from the ‘File’ menu. Or click
on the ‘New’ button found in the toolbar at the top of the window.
Settings
Instruct PS Birthday Organizer how to act by choosing the Settings you
desire.
The
Default Event is the event you will be given every time you enter a
new event. You can change this in the Add/Edit Events to the one of
your choice.
The
Default Alert Days is how many days will appear when you click on the
New Event button, found on the Toolbar. Again, you can change this as
you desire.
The
same procedure holds true for the Default Event Time. This is the time
that will be presented to you when you Add a New Event.
Timer
ON: When the timer is on and the program is running, the Events will
show at the time you have set for them, providing that it is within
the Alert Days.
You
can also have PS Birthday Organizer show all upcoming Events at
program start. This will show only those Events with their Alert Days,
and has no effect on showing them when the Timer ON option is checked
– unless the Time setting has over lapped.
Database
The
database has to be located in the application path. You can perform a
backup by going to the Option/Backup Database menu. By default the
database is backed up to the application path. We suggest you copy it
to another hard drive for safe keeping.
To
recover a database incase your original becomes corrupted or deleted,
rename the backed copy of your database to: “psbays.mdb”. Make sure PS
Birthday Organizer is not running, and then copy the database into the
application path.
The
application path is where your program is located. If you accepted the
default installation settings, on most computers you can find the
program at: “C:\Programs\PinderSoft\Birthdays”.
