New to version 3.0 is the data grid. You can enter data direct into the grid. To do so, click on one of the cells within the grid and enter your data. You can also activate the cell for editing by pushing the F2 key. Some cells are read only. These cells are not highlighted when you click on them. As a rule of thumb, all cells that highlight after being clicked on are able to accept data.
Most data grid cells accept 255 characters. Those accepting dates or numbers are restricted to proper formatting. For date fields in a data grid, enter the date in the short date format. For numbers, enter numbers without using commas or decimal points. Writers Project Organizer will then format your data.
In the image above, the first row of the data grid is selected. The cell with the word 'Address' in it is read only. Notice it is not highlighted. The cell that is highlighted accepts data; in this case it accepts 255 characters.
Some data grids will list files on your hard drive or point to websites, as in this image:
Enter your data manually or use the Locate button to search the files on your hard drive. When you use the Locate search, select the file you want to list. Writers Project Organizer will enter then name of the file into the grid. You can then open that file in its default program by clicking on the Open button.
If you enter a valid website address into the path and click on the Open button, Writers Project Organizer will start your internet browser and navigate to that webpage.
Some fields require formatting, such as dates and the 'Total Revenue' fields. When an improper formatting appears, the data grid will alert you by showing the error to the left of the grid, as in the example above. When an error does occur, use the ESC key to back out. Then enter the data in the correct format or leave the grid cell blank.
